The Rangataua Bat 'Massacre' (1994)

The Myth: One "super-predator" cat killed 102 bats in 7 days.
The Audit Finding:
The 1.9% Evidence: Only 2 out of 102 bats had confirmed bite marks.
The Forensic Void: 100 bodies had zero feline DNA and zero trauma. The cat’s stomach was empty of bat remains.
Never seen on camera, though a stoat was.
The Omission: An aerial 1080 drop occurred in the forest days prior. It was the reason for the research; no toxicology was performed on the victims. Verdict: A toxicological failure rebranded as a 'pest' success. [Ref: SG-BAT-102]
